Policy Statement
Silver Bird Consultancy Services Ltd (“Silver Bird”) treats everyone it works with fairly, with respect, and designs its work so that every participant can take part fully. We do not tolerate discrimination, harassment or victimisation in any form.
Inclusion is central to our work, not an add-on: helping organisations build cultures where people can contribute is what Silver Bird does. This policy sets out how we live up to that in our own practice.
1. Scope and the Law
This policy applies to Silver Bird’s directors, Alexis Assimacopoulos (Managing Director) and Leah Assimacopoulos (Director), and to any associate, freelance trainer, coach or subcontractor Silver Bird engages. It covers our work with clients, learners, suppliers and anyone we may recruit.
We comply with the Equality Act 2010, which protects people from discrimination because of nine protected characteristics: age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, sex, and sexual orientation. We go further than the law where we can, for example by valuing neurodiversity, different backgrounds and the Welsh language.
2. Our Commitments
Clients and learners – Treat every participant with dignity; challenge discriminatory language or behaviour in sessions; build examples and case studies that reflect a range of people and backgrounds
Suppliers, associates and subcontractors – Select them on merit, through fair and open criteria; pay at least the Real Living Wage and within 14 days; require them to follow this policy
Anyone we recruit – Recruit on merit, make reasonable adjustments at every stage, and offer fair pay and flexible working
The Welsh language – Treat Welsh and English equally when working in Wales; provide bilingual materials and Welsh-medium delivery where a client requires them
We also follow our clients’ own equality, diversity and inclusion policies when working with their people.
3. Inclusive and Accessible Delivery
Every session is designed so that people with different needs, confidence levels and working patterns can take part:
Before: a confidential question about access needs, so adjustments are in place on the day; materials shared in advance.
Materials: accessible formats with clear structure, plain English, readable fonts, good colour contrast and alternative text for images; compatible with screen readers.
During: live captions in virtual sessions, regular breaks, a choice of how to contribute (spoken, chat or written), no cold-calling, and pacing adjusted to the group.
Working patterns: sessions within core hours, shorter modules and repeat sessions for part-time and flexible workers.
Feedback: every evaluation asks whether participants felt able to take part fully, and we act on the answers.
4. Raising Concerns
Anyone who experiences or sees discrimination, harassment or victimisation connected with Silver Bird’s work should tell Alexis Assimacopoulos, Managing Director, at alexis@silverbirdconsulting.com or +44 7356 239702.
We acknowledge every concern within two working days, look into it fairly and confidentially, and tell the person what we have done. Where it happened in a client’s workplace, we also tell the client’s agreed contact, with the person’s consent unless there is a risk of harm. No one will be treated unfavourably for raising a concern in good faith.
Responsibilities, Review and Approval
Alexis Assimacopoulos, Managing Director and a Chartered Member of the CIPD, is responsible for this policy and for how it is applied. Both directors keep their equality knowledge up to date, and any associate or subcontractor is briefed on the policy before they start. The directors review the policy every year, using participant feedback and any concerns raised.
